Rok Kuserbanj and Špela Jelovčan returned to reclaim the titles at the fifth edition of Juriš na Hmezad in Zalec, Slovenia on Saturday.
2020 winner and course record holder Jelovčan ran the 265-step course with the required 5kg bag of hops on her back in 1:42.17. The Slovenian was 13 seconds slower than her PB, but slower winning times are proving quite common at many events this year as stair racing slowly emerges from its pandemic-enforced sabbatical.
Juriš na Hmezad was back close to full capacity this year, after a smaller event in 2021.
Judita Anzelc took second place in 1:44.56 and Karmen Štih was third in 1:46.25.

In the men’s division, 2020 winner Rok Kuserbanj put in a solid performance to hold off a strong field of runners that included two-time champion (2018-19) from Austria, Rene Sluga.
Kuserbanj was a couple of seconds slower than his winning time two years ago but his 1:14.92 was more than enough to see off the challenge from Žiga Plahutar (1:17.12) and Martin Höck (1:18.51).
